BIO:
Trivad,
real names Teddy Peter, is a Kenyan based song writer, artist,
perfomer and music minister who started singing in the year 2005 as
part of a group of four young talented boys who met in the slums of
Korogocho in Nairobi. The group, known as The Gimps, went on to
record a demo track under the mentorship of a famed gospel dj (Dj
Nevz of Spinrej Deejays) who saw them perform using old school
hip-hop beats and was blown away by this young group from the ghetto.
The track was recorded at JCS records.
The
track however, was never released as the group found it extremely
hard to have their music played on mainstream media as it was of low
quality (they didn’t know that at the time) and they didn’t have
any cash incentives to give to the media to play their music, as it
was common practice, and thus were frustrated and this brought about
divisions in the group and it later broke up.
Trivad
decided to venture into other arts and in 2007/2008 after clearing
high school he worked as an actor at The Kenya National Theatre where
he did travelling theatre for setbooks, worked with Heartstrings
Kenya under famed comedian Daniel ‘Churchill’ Ndambuki and even
had a short stint on TV on the show Wash and Set.
He
later went on to a neighbouring country Uganda for his A’ level
education and it was in 2009 when his passion for music was
re-ignited after watching a friend and former neighbour who used to
encourage him,Eko Dydda, release his debut single Niko na Reason which
went on to become a major gospel hit across Kenya. He prayed and
started writing music and after clearing his A ‘levels in 2010 he
came back home and didn’t know where to really start until in 2011
when he met well known producer Mr.Gittx of Rhyme X Studios who
produced his first major song titled I AM ME.
The
song went on to open many doors for him and the year saw him perform
it in numerous churches, schools and events with the biggest being the
biggest and best live event concert on Kenyan soil, The
Safaricom Kenya Live Concert
in Nairobi alongside the biggest names on the Kenyan music scene
including the Best Male Artist Eko Dydda who was so impressed with
his work that they immediately started working together.
Trivad
started
working on his album since then and is now working with Saint P,
Cedo, Eyearno, Jacky B and Max who are all established producers in
their own right whilst ministering in various places.
He
is guided by and sings about 3 things which constitute his stage
name;
TRI-Trinity
(The Holy Trinity)
V-
Vision (A vision for himself and his generation)
AD-And
Discipline (The character needed to achieve this vision)
Trivad
is inspired by God, life and the pain that he sees people go through
everyday just to survive. He speaks to this issues and has been
instrumental in bringing change to the best of his ability since he
identifies with the same having been brought up by a single mother in
three of Nairobi’s most notorious slums Mathare,Huruma and
Kariobangi. He is a member of The
Kenya Youth Climate Network,(K.Y.C.N),
which advocates for climate change issues and was part of a peace
campaign dubbed The
Linda
Amani Peace Initiative
which saw him travel to The Coast and Lower Eastern Provinces to
preach peace just before the 2013 General Elections in Kenya. He
is the only East African musician with an alter ego as part of his
image,which
is him wearing a mask symbolically to signify
obscurity, darkness and sin which is later removed by salvation. His
greatest achievement however still remains helping others meet Jesus
and overcome sin just as he did. He is currently pursuing a degree in
Computer Science at Kenyatta University and wants to establish his
own video and audio production company cum record label and most of
all be instrumental in helping the arts industry in Kenya get global
recognition in terms of quality, competition and finance.
